The 2020 Pandemic hasn’t been easy on anyone, and while some were hit by it much worse than the others, one thing is true for sure: the stress levels have definitely high for most of us these days! Stuck at home, lucky if our bills our paid, bombarded by the news, uncertain about the future: no one can deny the vital need to boost our mood these day! Thus, here’re my favorite tips and the best ways to de-stress at home, while doing so safely and healthfully!
THE BEST WAYS TO DE-STRESS AT HOME
#1. TREAT YOURSELF IN ANY WAY YOU CAN!
Treating yourself for something that’ll make you feel good is never as important when you have many responsibilities and few outlets to unwind!
But, no matter how few – it is possible to find things that make you happy at home, no matter how big or small they are! …And embrace shamelessly engaging with them!
For instance… Of course, Baking Therapy is my favorite at-home treat!
Well, of course you can say that considering the amount of dessert recipes on this site “alright, this girl just Loo-ooves baking”! But, baking therapy isn’t JUST for the dessert lovers! Here’s why:
A busy mom who cooks all day because she HAS to feed her family could find baking to be a truly accessible solution for crafting something that is NOT a necessity! It’s a treat, a homemade art, and a fun process, that’ll leave her with a mood-boosting treat for herself and a well-appreciated by her family sweet surprise!
At the same time a busy student or a remote worker could find baking and dessert making to be such a calming, soothing and creative activity which also offers a distraction from the intellectual work! Not to say, getting that instant gratification as a result of your labor could do a lot of good for a stressed out soul!
As both a student, a blogger and a mom, from my own experience I know how making a sweet treat to sweeten up my day does really do wonders for my spirit! 🙂 Oh, and if you practice your baking therapy sessions healthfully – it’s even more beneficial than it already is! 🙂
…Yet, that treat can actually be anything currently accessible to you! …Starting with a long hot shower or a walk outdoors, and ending with a cuddle with your kids and/or your pets or your S.O. (significant other)! 🙂
#2. STAY CONNECTED!
…Especially if you work from home and don’t get to socialize often (which is probably true for most people in 2020!) – it is super-important to stay connected with your community of family and friends!
As human beings, we are the social creatures! And thus, a lack of social interaction can wreck a havoc on our minds and souls!
While staying connected while social-distancing might be challenging, there are a few totally safe ways to do so!
- You can call or, even better, FaceTime, Skype or Zoom! Seeing a friendly face, no matter how far away, does wonders for your mood! And let me just tell you this: I have NEVER been calling my mom AS OFTEN as I had these days! I call her every day and do my best to also see her on Skype! 🙂
- Make the best out of your relationships with your family members! While being stuck in the same space for long periods of time can be stressful (I can just tell by how more often my two boys fight these day! 🙂 ), if you make an effort and recognize what triggers the tension and what triggers joy – you’ll be able to consciously choose the things that promote joy and avoid those that are stressful! For instance I found that watching a movie or taking a walk together is something that we all like to do! …And cooking all in the same kitchen could potentially lead to a tension! And thus… I usually bake at night. 🙂 When everyone’s sleeping! 🙂
- My favorite way to “block party”: cook something up and bring it to your friend’s or neighbor’s door. Exchanging the food this way is such a safe and fun way to stay in touch and treat each other for a new home-cooked meal! Or… you can also recipe-swap, which can be done over the phone or over the email!
#3. STAY ACTIVE!
Walk, move around the house, get up and jump! Yet, – don’t overdo it! I think that the best way to go about staying active to boost your mood without feeling exhausted is to find the balance between sitting for long hours in front of a computer to then move over to a couch, and being on your feet serving cleaning and then working out all day!
Taking breaks between the sitting sessions to take a walk or do some housework, and taking the breaks from the housework to relax and read can be just what you need to feel full and relax every day! 🙂
#4. DON’T DO SOMETHING!
If you work in your home, it is REALLY difficult to distinguish between workdays and weekends! Breaks and after-hours can also be unset and uncertain!
Thus, you may find yourself trapped in what seems to be a never-ending boring everyday routine!
So… do make an effort to change it up!
For instance – make it a cookout day one day! Try making a fancy meal!
Or, if cooking had become a part of your “boring routine” – choose to spend the whole day watching some movies! …Because – hey! No matter how busy you are – you deserve to have a “weekend” at least, like… once in a while, right?
…Actually, something as little as NOT doing a few things that you usually do, but that don’t bring you joy, can be a huge stress-relief and mood-booster!
While of course you may not be able to skip completing your work project, NOT sweeping the floor, NOT cooking a complicated meal and calling for a takeout instead; and NOT dragging your kids away from their computer screens to engage them in “something meaningful” could mean so much!
#5. STAY IN TOUCH WITH YOURSELF!
No matter what it is that your body, mind and soul needs at the moment – make sure to address it!
Our wellness doesn’t just consist of the physical health! It is important to maintain both your mental, emotional, social and spiritual wellness just as well!
So – listen to what your body, mind and soul are telling you! Address what seems to be out of place! And embrace fulfilling these needs! Because… you deserve it! ….Especially on the days when you feel overwhelmed, stressed and challenged!
