The Healthy Extra-Low Calorie Chocolate Sauce Recipe is silky, sweet, chocolatty, all-natural, vegan, paleo, gluten-free and very simple to make!
So, after having tried all kinds of chocolate syrups, fudges and sauces out there (OK, all the chocolate sauces that I’ve been able to find in the Los Angeles’s supermarkets or purchase from the known to me trustworthy online marketplaces 🙂 ) … I haven’t been able to find the one that I liked! 🙁Well, it isn’t like we have a shortage of chocolate sauces out there in the stores… (Not yet at least, but I’m not going to get political with you. It isn’t healthy to be getting political! 🙂 )
It’s just that well… as your usual millennial 🙂 I guess I’m kind of spoiled in a certain pretty common these days way 🙂 Because I don’t want to get just ANY chocolate sauce! I want to get a chocolate sauce that suits MY TASTES and MY NEEDS!
A chocolate sauce that is…
- Low-calorie and sugar-free (I do buy a regular Organic Chocolate Sauce for my kids because they do not need it to be low-calorie. But for myself… I want to be able to guiltlessly satisfy my sweet tooth sometimes. Umm… That sometimes happens pretty often 🙂 )
- All-natural (no artificial sweeteners, flavors and additives, please!)
- Tastes good!
…But no matter how many times I tried different brands, there was always something missing: a chocolate sauce was either not-so-healthy (tons of artificial sweeteners), or it tasted… horrible! And by that I mean HORRIBLE! To the point that I’d rather NOT have it at all than put that stuff in my mouth :(… I’m sorry for being so rough here… (And I’m not going to name any of these sauces here so that I don’t end up hurting anyone’s feelings). …Or, like I mentioned before it was tasty, but contained lots of sugar and calories!
And just like with all my cooking and recipe-making that was actually initiated by my need to have what I wanted and being unable to simply purchase it… I had to get to work on my new chocolate sauce recipe!Coming up with a good recipe was a bit of a process that involved a few spilling the whole thing in the sink failures… 🙂 (Well, if you remember this Hot Fudge Cake, I’ve already shared a pretty healthy & tasty chocolate sauce recipe with you. But that one was a bit different. It wasn’t THAT low-calorie, although it’s still all-natural and I love using it when I make something for the whole family).
But… I’ve found it! By far my favorite combination of ingredients that makes a sauce that suits all my needs! And it’s actually pretty simple! (Who would’ve known?!)One final note here. This Chocolate Sauce Recipe is something that I now love making for myself (a low-calorie desserts seeking girl). With that being said this recipe was developed with mostly its sugar-free and extra-low-calorie version in mind. To make this sauce I used Erythritol, an all-natural, zero-calorie sweetener that I love because it actually tastes great, too. But you can certainly use the sugar instead of the Erythritol and it’ll still be lower-calorie than most chocolate sauces out there because of its very low fat content (thanks to my recent favorite find – the Cashew Milk – a much creamier, thicker and lower-calorie alternative to both dairy and most other non-dairy milks).
A recipe for a silky, sweet, chocolatty, low-calorie, all-natural, vegan, paleo, gluten-free and very easy to make Chocolate Sauce!
- 1 cup cashew milk*
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1/4 cup sugar or Erythritol
- 1 tsp corn starch
Whisk the corn starch and the milk in a saucepan until the starch dissolves. Add the cocoa powder and the sugar and whisk well, until the cocoa dissolves in the milk. You can also use a hand-mixer to whisk the ingredients.
Set the saucepan over a low flame and bring to boil, stirring occasionally. Let the sauce boil for a few minutes until it thickens. Keep stirring it as it boils.
Take the sauce off the heat and pour it into jar. The sauce will thicken as it cools.
* I love using the cashew milk the most to make this sauce because it's thicker and creamier than most other milks, being at the same time one of the lowest in calories (40 cal/cup compare to 60 cal/cup for almond milk and 100 cal/cup for coconut milk)
*If you want your sauce to be darker and fudgier just sub some of the regular cocoa powder with the Dutch pressed cocoa.
*To make this sauce I used Erythritol, a naturally-derived sugar-free, 0 calorie sweetener.
