Holidays are supposed to be so much fun! All the cookie-baking and the party-going give us a reason to cheer up, doll up and share the joy! Yet, at the same time most of us can’t beat the feelings of stress and overwhelm! Sounds familiar? 🙂
But believe it or not, these feelings are perfectly normal!
After reading so much about it, I’ve realized that not only your regular routine is broken and your days may seem convoluted and erratic! All the parties and gatherings do add the pressure and breed the stress!
This stress can easily lead to feelings of disappointment and dissatisfaction! Ultimately not what you want to be feeling during the Holidays, right?
But there are ways to ease the stress and ensure that your Holidays are as joyful as they are supposed to be! 🙂
HOW TO BEAT THE HOLIDAY STRESS!
EAT LIGHT
There’s a saying “Don’t eat or drink your feelings”. It is so true, especially now during when our emotions run high and it’s so tempting to turn to food to add or replace the genuine satisfaction!
Don’t!
Yet, at the same time food does bring us comfort and joy! So how do you go about it?
I say – eat! Enjoy your food! Only eat light! Because you don’t want to after-binge nausea combined with the senses of guilt to destroy your Holiday mood, right?
SPEND SOME TIME ALONE
As much as you may think that want to spend the quality time with your family and friends (because – come-on, it’s the get-together time, right!), it’s so important to spend some time alone!
…Especially if you’re an introvert like me and have a large family!
Trust me – it happened to me way too many times when I pushed myself to give as much time as I could to everyone around me and to only end up feeling stressed out, anxious and upset!
Give yourself a gift or me-time! Recharge! It’ll only make you more enjoyable to have around!
TREAT YOURSELF
As much as it is important to gift every friend and family member around, your biggest gift to them might be your good mood!
And as much as you may think of yourself as “grown up” who doesn’t need gifts, you really… seriously do! And trust me – your good mood is worth it!
So – gift yourself. Even with a small little something!
CREATE A ROUTINE AND STICK TO IT
The fact that your usual predictable routine goes out of the window might sound like fun, but sometimes it’s awfully stressful instead! Why?
Stepping out of your everyday “rut” also means that your everyday “pleasant rituals” don’t happen anymore.
The lack of this dose of “daily happiness” inevitably creates stress.
But the good news is – when the old routine is broken – you can always create a new one! Even if it’s just for a few weeks!
So come up with one!
And schedule as many “pleasant moments” in it as you can!
So what do you think? Do you feel more equipped to resist that stress now? If you have any other tips on how to beat the Holidays stress – I’d love to hear all about it in the comments below! 🙂
Happy Holidays friends! 🙂
