Makeup products used too often or in a wrong way may hurt your skin by blocking its pores, preventing it from producing its natural oils and irritating it. But it doesn’t have to be like that! Here’re a few tips on how to both keep your skin healthy and youthful and to enjoy getting dolled up!Hi, dear friends!
You may already know that I am not a big fan of wearing too much makeup, right? Heck, I’m rather a fan of NOT wearing it whenever I can!
Why? Because no matter how good the makeup products that you’re using are…(And I believe in investing in the good quality makeup: my skin is worth it. And treating all the rashes and irritation caused by the low-quality makeup products will cost me more anyway, right?) …No matter what – it isn’t natural for our skin to be covered in layers of artificial stuff. Our skin needs to breath. It needs to produce its own oil to stay elastic. And wearing all the foundations, powders and concealers prevents your skin from doing it’s job in keeping itself healthy. And then it doesn’t look as good. And you begin wearing more makeup to cover the bad skin up. And then the skin gets even worse…
But, OK, I’d never tell you to forget about using makeup for good, even if you’re invited to an Oscars Ceremony (oh, wouldn’t that be nice huh? ) Wear your makeup! But be smart about it.
I like using a foundation brush to apply my foundation. It spreads it around nicely without leaving any streaks.
So here’re a few things that I do to preserve the beauty of my skin:
- Find the right kind of a foundation. This one’s important because although we all probably know by now that you must choose your daily moisturizer based on your skin type (oily, normal, dry or combination), right? The same comes to your makeup: not only a foundation created specifically for your skin type will look better on you. It’ll help your skin, too!
- Always, always apply your regular moisturizer before putting all the other products on. Nourish your skin. It’ll look better under all that makeup!
- As much as you can – use as few products as you can. Because once again: the more stuff you put on your skin – the more difficult it is for your skin to breath underneath it.
- Referring to the #1 and #3. Whenever it’s possibly, whenever you can get away with it – do NOT use the powders! (By that I mean all kinds of correcting setting powders, matifying powders, blotting powders, etc). OK, unless you’re headed to the Oscars Party where you’ll be photographed for the Vanity Fair magazine! 🙂
On these photos you can see me wearing my favorite Tinted Moisturizing Balm by Bobby Brown.
A few things about this look:
- I’m ONLY wearing my Tinted Balm! No concealers under my eyes to covering those dark circles completely, but to also completely block my skin’s pores. No powders to suck up all the oils and moisture that my dry skin needs more than any other type.
- It doesn’t provide the full coverage. But do I need it? Yes, you can still see that the skin tone under my eyes is a bit darker (not always getting enough of good night’s sleep! 🙁 ). But when I go out to a casual party or to a meeting or any other event where I want to look good (still knowing that I won’t be photographed for the Vanity Fair that day… 🙂 ) It’s good enough to provide an overall polished look!
- My skin still glows! And although many prefer it when their skin is velvety-matte, I’d rather keep my healthy glow! It’s because this balm is created specifically for dry skin. My skin is dry. And the oil in the balm makes it feel so much better! Not to say that a dry skin tends to wrinkle really fast. It occurs naturally. If I wear a wrong foundation – all it takes for the little lines to show is me smiling a few times!
Finally… whenever I can – literally the minute I walk back to my house – I remove all the makeup off with my favorite oil-based makeup remover. I rinse it a few times with cool water. Put my moisturizer on. And my skin feels GOOOOOOD! 🙂So what do you think about my approach to wearing a foundation? Please let me know in the comments below! 🙂
Your skin looks just fabulous, it just glows! I don’t use makeup with exception of lipstick. I just never got the hang of it. I would like to use a base just to even out my skin tone. Maybe one day!
Thank you, Debra!!! I think that my skin “glows” because I’m not afraid to use all sorts of oils and balms! I am not going for that popular “matte” look! 🙂
I found your blog, nice information
